History of Kumbh mela with facts based information

Kumbh means a pitcher and it is known as a festival or fair According to ancient Hindu mythology, Lord Vishnu let out drops of immortality (Kumbh) at four places where the holiday is now celebrated – Prayagraj, NashikHaridwarUjjain. The festival rotates in these cities approximately every three years, determined by astrology on the exact dates, places, and lengths. In 2017, UNESCO added the festival to its list of keen cultural heritage, citing its “central spiritual role” in the country.

How Kumbh Mela celebrate

The main ritual of Kumbh Mela is bathing in rivers. It is believed that bathing in holy water frees them from their past sins and frees them from the cycle of Moksha or birth and death. A huge tent city “pop-up megacity” has been built around the Delta in Prayagraj so that millions of people can drown in the holy rivers.

Worshipers will line up before sunrise and stay in the water during the day. The BBC reports that 30 million people are expected to take part in the most auspicious bathing day on February 4.

Sannyasis, also known as saints, also play an important role in this tradition. There are many types of saints, many of whom are identified by their tangled hair and naked bodies wrapped in ashes. Although they usually lead a solitary life, at the Kumbh Mela, these holy men gather in search of light.

How people prepare for Kumbh mela

During this year’s Kumbh Mela, Prayagraj oversees an infrastructure project. The budget for this year’s festival is $ 400 million, the BBC reports. The amount includes 122,000 toilets, more than 4,200 “premium” tents, 10,000 police, and all types of advanced transportation, including a new airport and 186 miles of road. And if any pilgrims fall ill, a newly installed 100-bed central hospital with 10 satellites will operate near the festival site from 1 December. To curb the influx of pilgrims, police have said that worshipers should not bathe for more than 41 seconds to avoid fatal medical stamps, as more than 40 people died in 2013. Police also told the BBC that for the first time, a fake intelligence system would be deployed to monitor the crowd. Senior police officer Kavindra Pratap Singh said, “Our priority is to ensure that there is no disaster.”
