What is the meaning of Devbhoomi?

The meaning of Devbhoomi is “the land of God’’ and this title is given to many sacred places in India. Devbhoomi is mostly called to the Himalayan region of India.

According to the Rishi Munis, there are 5 parts or khand of Devbhoomi Kashmir, Kangra, Kedar, Kurma (Manas), Kailasha

 

Location of 5 khand in modern days

In modern days, the Kashmir Khand comes in Jammu and Kashmir union territory of India.

Kangra Khand comes from the Himachal Pradesh state of India.

Kedar and Kurma(Manas) Khand comes under the Uttarakhand state of India.

Kailash khand comes under Nepal and Sikkim.

Uttarakhand is called devbhoomi; the land of gods because there are so many Hindu pilgrimage spots in Uttarakhand. Also, Uttarakhand is known as Devbhoomi since ancient times, now this state is regarded as Devbhoomi Uttarakhand in India. Devbhoomi Uttarakhand also comes under the Himalayan region. Also, Devbhoomi Uttarakhand’s mountain region and valleys are the abode of gods and goddesses. India’s Longest and holiest river Ganga is originated from Gangotri Glacier which is in the Uttarkashi district of Uttarakhand Devbhoomi.

Pindar river joins Alaknanda river in Karnaprayag.

Alaknanda river joins Mandakini river in Rudraprayag.

Alaknanda river joins Bhagirathi river forming river Ganga in Devprayag.

 9.Out of 12 Jyotirlinga in India one is located in Uttarakhand named Kedarnath 

Jyotirlinga or Jyotirlingam is a devotional representation of the Hindu god Lord Shiva. The word Jyotish which means radiance and linga are Sanskrit words. There are 12 Jyotirlinga in India and Kedarnath is also regarded as the 5th Jyotirlinga out of 12 Jyotirlinga in India. Kedarnath temple is located on the Garhwal Himalayan range near the Mandakini river in the Rudraprayag district of Uttarakhand.

 10.Tungnath is the highest elevation Shiva temple in the world is located in Uttarakhand 

Tungnath temple is high altitude Shiva temple in the world located at an altitude of 3,680 m or 12,070 ft comes under the Rudraprayag district of Uttarakhand. The Tungnath temple is built by the Pandavas of Mahabharat and dedicated to Lord Shiva. The name of the temple is derived from Tung which means arms and Nath which symbolizes Lord Shiva.

 11.Maha Kumbh Mela held in Haridwar district of Uttarakhand in a cycle of every 12 years 

Kumbh Mela is a pilgrimage and festival of Hinduism in India. It is celebrated in a cycle of 12 years at four river bank pilgrimage sites which are in the Prayagraj, Haridwar, Nashik, and Ujjain. Kumbh Mela 2023 is going to held in the Haridwar district of Uttarakhand.

 13.The three-week-long Nanda Devi Raj Jat Yatra is held in Uttarakhand 

The three-week-long Nanda Devi Raj Jat Yatra with a total distance of approximately 290 km is held in Uttarakhand. Nanda Devi Raj Jat is a pilgrimage and festival of Uttarakhand where people from Garhwal and Kumaon division as well as people across India and other countries participate The goddess Nanda Devi is worshipped in many places of  Garhwal and Kumaon region.

Valley of Flowers National Park is situated in the Chamoli district of Uttarakhand. It is believed that during the Mahabharat period the Pandavas crossed the Mana village which is located in the Chamoli district of Uttarakhand during their final journey to heaven.

Auli Bugyal lies in an elevation range of around 2,500–3,050 meters or 8,200–10,010 ft is situated in the Chamoli district of Uttarakhand. Auli Bugyal is itself heaven on earth and the place of god and goddess.
